Programme Overview

The Child and Family Research Centre has adopted the UNESCO Chair Strategic Plan 2010-2013. The Plan was developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders. In particular, it was drawn up in co-operation with UNESCO and is closely aligned to UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector incoming Global Strategy on Youth.

Chair’s Mission Statement:

To promote civic engagement for children and youth by providing relevant expertise in research, teaching, policy and good practice and establishing national and international networks.

Core Components of the Chair’s Programme of Work:

These four pillars of the UNESCO programme should not be viewed as separate. Each of the pillars reciprocally depends on each other. For example, the research agenda for the Chair and its products (reports, publications) will form part of the curricula for teaching (thematic modules) while, issues of advocacy (position papers and policy briefs) will in part determine future service and programme design.

Participation of Children and Young People:

The Chair is commited to ensuring that in all activities undertaken by the Chair there will be a strong emphasis on child and youth participation.

An Information Sheet for young people on the UNESCO Chair is now available.

National and International Partners:

The UNESCO Chair has established and will continue to develop national and international partnerships with institutes and organisations that have a shared goal of promoting civic engagement and leadership skills among children and youth.
