Berni Smyth has a Masters in Family Support (NUIG). She has conducted research into Social Support and Resilience in relation to adolescent refugees and asylum seekers.
For a number of years, Berni has lectured on various post and undergraduate courses including the Masters in Family Support, Masters in Social Work, Masters in Community Development and the BA in Family and Community Studies, NUIGalway. Berni is a practitioner who has engaged with young people and their families in the youth, family support and education sectors. She is currently the Coordinator of the School Completion Project Tuam, County Galway and previously established SPARK, (a support project for adolescent refugees and asylum seekers, jointly administered by Youth Work Ireland and the HSE ).
