Liam Coen (BA, M.Litt) joined the Child and Family
Research Centre staff in 2007. Previously, Liam taught public and social policy at the National University of Ireland, Galway and the University of Limerick. Past research interests have included the Irish administrative system with specific reference to the reform of local government and the transition to local governance.
His PhD work focuses on the attitude of the
Irish state towards parenting using three case studies: those parenting
alone, Immigrant parents, and non-resident parents. He is currently working
on research projects in the areas of: reform of social policy
in relation to those parenting alone; the development of parenting
programmes by the ISPCC; the development and establishment of
centres for non-resident parents to meet and interact with their
children; inter-agency and cross border collaboration between
those who provide services for children and young people;
the development of domestic violence policy in Ireland;
and the implementation of family preservation models of support
in a pilot site in Ireland.
